What Local Services Ads are and where they fit
When someone searches for a trade near them, Google can show a short list of verified local businesses above the regular ads and the map. A homeowner taps a business, calls or sends a message, and that contact becomes a lead in the advertiser's account. The advertiser is charged for valid leads, not for impressions or clicks.
For most home service businesses that makes LSA the most direct paid channel on Google. It sits alongside, not instead of, a Google Business Profile, a website that converts and, for many trades, a standard search campaign. Each one catches a different moment, and they work best when the business details agree across all of them.
What we handle in a Local Services Ads account
The work splits into getting live and staying useful. We do the account side and keep you informed on anything only the business can supply, such as licences, insurance documents or owner details for screening.
- Account setup, category selection and eligibility checks
- Verification support: organising documents and chasing stalled steps
- Job types and service areas that match the work you actually want
- Profile accuracy: hours, business details, photos and description
- Lead review, disputes for leads that fall outside the rules, and outcome tracking
- Budget and bidding settings tied to job value, not lead volume
- A review request process after completed jobs
- Monthly monitoring and a plain written summary
Who this is for
Owner run and growing service businesses in eligible categories: roofers, plumbers, HVAC companies, electricians and other trades where a homeowner wants someone reliable fast. It suits businesses that can answer the phone, book quickly and want to see which leads became paid jobs.
It is not a good fit if the phone goes unanswered for long stretches, if the business cannot meet the licensing or insurance requirements for its category, or if the goal is brand awareness rather than booked work.
Setup, optimization and visibility
Setup is about getting the account approved and configured correctly the first time. Optimization is the ongoing work of cutting poor fit leads and putting budget behind the jobs that pay. Visibility is the result of both, plus reputation and responsiveness, and it is never something any agency can promise.
Setup
Category, verification, service areas, job types, hours and budget. Mistakes here tend to cost the most, because they shape every lead that follows. See the full setup workflow on our Local Services Ads setup page.
Optimization
Reviewing leads every week or two, disputing the ones that qualify, adjusting job types and areas, and matching budget to the season and to crew capacity.
Ranking and visibility
Google decides who appears and in what order. Businesses can influence relevance, reputation, responsiveness and profile health. We explain what is in your control and what is not on our LSA ranking page.
Google Guaranteed and verification in brief
Depending on the category and location, Google shows a badge such as Google Guaranteed or Google Screened after a business passes checks that can include licence and insurance review and background checks on the owner or field staff. Requirements differ by trade and by state, and Google runs the checks itself. We help you prepare and fix what stalls, but nobody outside Google can grant the badge.
Lead handling and lead quality
A Local Services Ads lead is only as good as what happens in the first few minutes. Missed calls, slow message replies and vague quotes waste spend regardless of how well the account is configured. We look at the call and message history with you, mark leads as booked or lost where the account allows it, and separate genuine poor fit leads from ones that were simply not followed up.
Budget and lead economics
Lead prices vary by trade, job type, town and season, so we do not quote a universal cost per lead. The useful question is what a booked job is worth to you and how many leads it takes to book one. From there we set a weekly budget the crew can actually handle and adjust it as close rates and seasons change.
Local Services Ads versus standard Google Search Ads
Search Ads charge per click, send people to your website and give fine control over keywords, ad copy and landing pages. Local Services Ads charge per lead, put the contact directly in your account and rely on your profile, reviews and verification rather than ad copy. Many trades run both: LSA for the urgent call, Search Ads for specific high value services or areas LSA does not cover well. Our pay per click management covers the search side.
The 2026 move toward Performance Max pay per lead
Google has started moving some US Local Services Ads advertisers toward Performance Max campaigns that use a pay per lead goal. Which categories and accounts move, and when, is set by Google and announced in the account. We keep a separate page on what this means and how to prepare, and we update it as the rollout changes.
